A picture alleging that it is showing the upcoming production version of the BMW Active Tourer Concept from the 2012 Paris Motor Show has appeared on the web. From what we understand, it was sourced from the cover of the next AutoBild magazine issue, which has since blurred out the image.

It looks real, but there’s always a chance that the German publication may have digitally manipulated a scoop shot to achieve the unconcealed look. It’s worth mentioning that the car is referred to as the 2-Series Active Tourer and not the 1-Series Gran Turismo, as we have been calling it for some time now.

Whatever the series it belongs to, the Active Tourer will break many traditions, as it will introduce us to the first ever front-wheel drive BMW, riding on the same platform architecture as the new family of Mini cars, while also being the brand’s first minivan-like model.

The engine lineup will offer three- and possibly four-cylinder diesel and petrol units.

After the debut of the five-seat model, which could take place as early as the Geneva Motor Show next month, BMW will enhance the range with a longer version with seating for 5+2 passengers.
