This video will probably be a revelation for those who judge new car models exclusively through the perspective of the car fanatic. That’s because it shows how potential customers evaluate a car and what makes them tick. In this particular case, WhatCar recorded the reactions of people who are actually considering the new Porsche Macan SUV as their next vehicle.

If you’re expecting these potential customers to mention criteria like motorsport pedigree, exclusivity, tradition and so forth, think again.

Your average customers who are in the market for a Macan don’t really care about any of those, so get used to Porsche acquisition criteria like space for the dog cage, space for passengers, comfort and boot volume.

So next time you criticize a carmaker for “compromising” its image with models that are don’t fit its tradition, you may remember this video and the fact that, in order to survive, an automaker must give customers what they want. It’s as simple as that.
