It’s now been decided that if Aston Martin makes an SUV, it will brand it as one of its own, not using the revived Lagonda nameplate. However, that doesn’t make things any clearer, and but what does is the rumor that the future high-riding Aston could use the same underpinnings as the Mercedes-Benz GL.

Also using AMG engines, this would mean the Brits would be left to make a prettier body for it than their first attempt, learning from other’s mistakes in the process too.

Moreover, since the Germans have a fairly strong link to Tesla, we may even see it benefit from some form of electrification.

Apparently, the Aston SUV project has been under consideration for a long while now, as Autocar reports, it “has been moved to the back burner many times previously because a suitable vehicle platform wasn’t available.”

If they get all of the technicalities sorted out, it’s speculated that we could see the model debut in 2017.
