There was some debate on whether the two-door model shown on a wall screen during Daimler’s annual press conference in Stuttgart the other day was the new S-Class Coupe or the next C-Class Coupe.

Well, the only way to find out was to watch a…2 hour video of Daimler executives talking about the company’s performance, plans and financial tidbits (not the most pleasant way to spend your time, may I add…), and we can now confirm that it is indeed the S-Class Coupe.

The new model was shown during Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche’s speech in which he said:

“We are also further expanding our S-Class family. The new S-Class Coupe will celebrate its world premiere in Geneva in March. The picture you see behind me gives you a first idea of what the vehicle will look like.”

Zetsche made a few more revelations, including the presentation of another all-new body style for the S-Class series by the end of the year:

“Traditionally, the Coupe will serve as the top model in our S-Class program – still we have a lot more in store for you,” he said. “As announced, we’re expanding our S-Class to six models making the series more extensive than ever before. Among these models, there are completely new vehicles, one of which will be introduced before the end of the year.”

Zetsche continued with the announcement on the debut of a new sports car, which we hear, will be named SLC or GT AMG:

“We also have plans for a completely new vehicle in the sports segment as well. I don’t want to give out much now, but it will be an all-new Mercedes,” said the executive.

He then went to say that Mercedes will present the facelifted CLS sedan and Shooting Brake in October (likely at the Paris Auto Show), the new C-Class Estate in the fall, and that Smart will introduce an all-new ForFour in July before it goes on sale during the fourth quarter of the year, adding that it will seat four people and measure 3,500mm (137.8 inches) in length.
