Skoda will reportedly to bring a new concept car at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show that will preview the redesigned Fabia supermini, which is scheduled for a late 2014 reveal.
There are no details about the study, but the all-new Fabia will be the first VW Group vehicle to use the short version of the MQB architecture, known as MQB-A. Other models that will subsequently be based on this platform are the next-generation versions of the VW Polo and Seat Ibiza.
According to an Autocar report, the new Fabia will be longer and wider than the current model, which means it will have a roomier interior and more space for luggage. The current Fabia hatchback is 4,000-mm (157.5-in) long, 1,642-mm (64.6-in) wide and 1,498-mm (59-in) tall and has a maximum storage space of 1,180 liters (41.7 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded.
As for the new Fabia’s styling, it will feature the brand’s new design language, including a more prominent front grille with a larger Skoda badge – similar to the facelifted Yeti. The new supermini is also expected to feature cues from the current Fabia S2000 rally car. To better appeal to younger buyers, the new Fabia will focus on connectivity features.
In terms of engines, the all-new Skoda Fabia will likely use 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter TSI petrol units, as well as a 1.6-liter diesel. The 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine from the VW Up may also be offered. The Fabia will go on sale in early 2015 after an official reveal in late 2014, probably at the Paris Motor Show in autumn.
