Volvo Cars parent company and one of China’s most active players in the automotive field, Geely Auto, announced on Friday that it has officially entered the Brazilian market with the launch of its top model, the Emgrand EC7 mid-size sedan

The EC7 is offered in 20 countries around the world and has the distinction of being the first Chinese-made automobile to avoid flopping in the Euro-NCAP safety crash tests earning a decent 4-star rating in November 2011. It has since been surpassed by the Chinese-Israeli Qoros 3 that was awarded with five-stars.

In Brazil, Geely has appointed the Gandini Group as the official and exclusive dealer of the Emgrand EC7, which will be assembled in Uruguay

Geely Auto’s products for the Brazilian market will be assembled in Uruguay, with parts of the manufacturing process, including welding and painting, conducted in China.

“The products assembled in the Uruguayan plant will principally serve the Brazilian and Argentinian markets, in accordance with the South American Common Market Agreement,” said Geely in a statement.

The company added that the plant has the annual capacity to produce around 20,000 units of four separate lines of vehicles in the future, including the EC7, EC7-RV, GC2 and GX2 EC7, EC7-RV, GC2 and the GX2.
