Katie Poletti is a young woman who is in love, not with a man, but with her 1978 Chevrolet Nova that she christened Ned. She is not the kind of woman you see parading or dreaming of strolling on meaningless television shows and magazine articles; she is one of a kind, and you could say, our kind.

“We’re just two red heads in love,” says Katie about Ned. “Simply said, I love this car. I’ve tried to better sum it up, but nothing comes close to enough,” she writes.

Ned was recently overhauled to join Katie in her quest to discover other women in the world of cars, a mission she dubbed “Beauty’s Got Muscle“, and which she decided upon after enduring the death of a very close friend named Theresa, back in August of 2010.

To breathe new life to her Nova, Katie came in contact with the muscle car crew at S&P Classics in Amity Village, Long Island, New York. However, she didn’t simply leave the Chevy to owners Steve McCrory and Peter Colasanto, but she offered herself as an apprentice at the shop to work on the classic car.

“In a crazy attempt to prove that Ned Nova and I are not the only ones of our kind and that our numbers are growing each day, we are on a mission to find other women out there in the world of cars,” says Katie about her Beauty’s Got Muscle quest.

“How far will we travel and for how long? However long it takes. We’ll be living for the road and for the experiences it has to offer. It’s going to be a bumpy ride sometimes, and we’ll probably get lost, but as the saying goes, you do crazy things when you’re in love,” she adds.
