While temptations are everywhere, that does not mean you should give into them, otherwise, you may end up in a pickle like this Florida auto transporter who borrowed a 2011 Chevrolet Corvette C6 he was transferring to its new owner to go out on a date with his girlfriend.
The driver, 49-year-old Ronald Francis Kelly of Sebring, Florida, had a two-day layover in Pearland where he was supposed to pick up additional vehicles headed for the sunshine state.
To kill some time, he parked the truck at a Walmart store and took down a 2011 Corvette that was already inside the trailer and used it for two days. The joy-ride ended at around 9:15 p.m. on New Year’s Day when Pearland Police pulled him over for a traffic violation where it was discovered that Kelly wasn’t the real owner of the car.
The man told police that he was a driver for an auto transport company and that he was allowed to use the Corvette. However, when officers contacted the transport company and the vehicle’s owner, they told them that Kelly was only authorized to load and unload cars from the trailer.
Subsequently, felony charges were filed for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. According to the Pearland Journal, Kelly was taken into custody and is currently held at the Brazoria County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
