The road-legal Formula Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost car is definitely a spectacular vehicle to watch in action, especially on public roads. It looks the way it does because it needs to be as light as possible, and make the most of its just over 202hp (205PS) output. When Chris Harris had his say on it, it was only making 170hp, but now Autocar has done so too, and this time they got the full figure.

They pitted the car against three very high performance street cars, an Audi R8, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, however, the bad weather conditions on the day of shooting rendered the test almost useless, since the Formula Ford does in no way excel in the wet, it merely manages…

It did hold its own, though, and still impressed reviewer Steve Sutcliffe, with the same intoxicating blend of power, torque and an always-different wastegate sound that was intentionally left too loud.

Definitely a car every petrolhead would love to have a go in, us included, or even own and take out on the weekends, though it would have to be  a third, not even a second car…
