With a combined horsepower output of 220, and a quoted 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 8.3 seconds, the Lexus IS300h was never designed to be a performance car. It claws a bit back with its reportedly sharp chassis and good handling, as well as the eye-catching looks, but when it comes to being delivering impressive numbers, this hybrid only delivers them in the economy area alone, and even that comes with an asterisk.
Some reviewers also commented that it could do with softer suspension, so as to build on its cruiser character, instead of trying to sell it off as a wannabe sports car which it’s not and never will be with a CVT gearbox whining away in the background.
The promo created for it is satisfactory to watch, though, and while the car hasn’t won us over with its sporting appeal, at a first glance, the video we have posted below is good at putting it in that sort of (unrealistic) light.
It features former F1 driver Jarno Trulli, an empty aircraft hangar and 12 video projectors mounted on the roof of the building, facing downward. These are linked to a tablet app that allows the user to draw corners and parts of a track in real time, and then have them immediately show up on the hangar floor, being projected from above.
This is where Jarno Trulli’s skill behind the wheel comes in, because the corners can be as sharp as the user wants them to be, and just as sudden. Still, this is only a promo, and does not really show how the idea works, but I would honestly like to see this system in action, in real time, and take note of just what it takes to actually pull it off.
