What interesting automotive times we live in when a tuner feels the need to enhance the performance specifications of a sports car like the McLaren 12C (formerly known as the MP4-12C) that leaves the factory with no less than 616-horses (625PS) from its 3.8-liter V8 twin turbocharged engine.
For $19,500 or about €14,700, Hennessey offers current McLaren 12C owners the opportunity to upgrade their cars with its HPE700 package that includes an ECU software upgrade that increases peak boost from 21 to 23 psi, a heat exchanger upgrade, a throatier-sounding stainless steel exhaust system and high-flow air filters.
You also get aluminum serial-numbered Hennessey plaques for both the engine compartment and interior, as well as special badges.
What the engine tune does to the 12C’s V8 is lift output to 704 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and peal torque to 538 lb-ft of torque at 5800 rpm, enabling a 0-60mph (96km/h) sprint time of 2.8 seconds (stock: 3.1 sec) and a quarter-mile run of 10.3 seconds (stock: 10.6 sec) at 137 mph (220 km/h).
