As Professor Farnsworth would say, “Good news, everyone” (who lives in the U.S. and is interested in a more compact sized Volvo station wagon), as the Swedes have announced the engine range for the V60 estate ahead of the car’s launch in the States in January.
The more practical sibling of the S60 series will offer American buyers a choice of three powertrains, starting with Volvo’s 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four from the new Drive-E family that produces 240hp and is offered exclusively with front-wheel drive for the time being.
The other two units are a 2.5-liter turbo’d inline-five rated for 250-horses that comes with all-wheel drive, and a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbo churning out 325hp, also with standard AWD. The latter will be offered in an R-Design trim with added sports features.
Volvo noted that it will gradually present more versions of its new four-cylinder Drive-E engine family, which will take power figures “up into V8 territory” while returning improved fuel economy numbers.
“This is an exciting time of transformation for Volvo and shows our Swedish heart is beating strongly,” said Volvo Cars of North America President and CEO John Maloney. “The V60 signifies our first step in a gradual move toward powerful, highly efficient, four-cylinder engines across the entire portfolio of our vehicles.”
