Despite offering one of the most configurable bodystyles in the market, the more recent generations of the Jeep Wrangler were notoriously difficult when it came to removing their tops. However the latest JL generation is here to make life a little bit easier.

Jeep claims that swapping the hard top for a soft top in the new Wrangler JL is easier than ever, with the mechanism of the soft top doing away with the much hated zippers that were a pain to align and close, especially when there was dust involved.

Instead of zippers, the JL soft top features a sliding mechanism for the side panels, making their installation a breeze. However, and as shown from Edmunds on the video below, the process remains a two-man job since it involves carrying the hard top out of the way and holding the soft top in place for alignment.

The hard top itself is hold in place by just eight bolts, with the Wrangler having a special place for holding them when the soft top is used so you won’t lose them. Details like this help the Wrangler JL score valuable points, especially in the eyes of hardcore fans.

The whole process will still take around an hour the first time, but with practice the Jeep Wrangler JL could have its soft top installed in as little as 30 minutes.
