Only two weeks after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty for the murder of 17-year old Trayvon Martin in one of the country’s most controversial trials in years, police car dash-cam footage shows the 30-year old Florida resident getting away for…speeding in northern Texas this past weekend.

Zimmerman was pulled over driving a grey Honda Ridgeline truck on Sunday afternoon on Highway 80 in Forney, near Dallas, Texas, CBS DFW-TV reported. He told the police officer that he was carrying a gun in his glove compartment. In the dash-cam video we hear Zimmerman asking the cop if he recognized his name, with the police officer replying, “what a coincidence”.

Later we hear the officer telling him, “The reason you were stopped is for your speed. And as long as you don’t have any warrants, you’ll be served a warning”. Asked where he was heading, Zimmerman said, “Nowhere in particular”.

After the officer completed a background check, he let Zimmerman go with a verbal warning. “Just take it easy, go ahead and shut your glove compartment and don’t play with your firearm, ok?” said the officer.

Following the news on the traffic stop, Zimmerman’s family issued the following statement, according to CNN:  “Our family receives many death threats. We all continue to take our security seriously and to ensure our safety in accordance with the law.”
