What better way to please Russian crowds at a Formula 1 demonstration than having a crash? This is how Ferrari’s endurance driver Kamui Kobayashi could have explained to his bosses the rather embarrassing crash from Sunday’s Moscow City Racing rally.

The Japanese was instructed to do some “donuts” for the public on the improvised street course, but the wet asphalt played a trick on the ex-Sauber F1 driver.

Kobayashi lost control of the 2009 Ferrari F60 F1 car during heavy acceleration and planted the car head-on into the barriers. Fortunately, he was not travelling at a high speed at the moment of the crash and emerged unscathed from the car. The Ferrari wasn’t so lucky though and came to a halt on three wheels moments after the impact.

Kobayashi explained that the crash was caused by the slippery conditions and a marked bump that sent the car into a slide. It is not the first time such an accident happens during a Formula 1 demonstration, as Williams’ Pastor Maldonado crashed an F1 car in his native Venezuela last year. Scroll down to watch both crashes and judge which driver was more at fault.
