Yes, we’ve already seen a video in which the new Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG hatch is compared against the BMW M135i, but a) these are not the kind of cars you get tired of watching, b) if not always, most of the times, Chris Harris’ reviews are entertaining and informative, and c) the more reviews you read and/or watch, the better chances you have to form a reliable and trusted opinion of a product.
Before we let Harris do the talking, we will give you the basics on both models, neither of which is available in hatchback form in the United States.
Munich’s challenger is available in most countries in both rear- and all-wheel drive form (in the UK, only the former is offered) and it sports a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six delivering 315hp (320PS). If you choose the standard 6-speed manual and step on the gas pedal, you’ll see the 62mph (100km/h) mark coming in 5.1 seconds, while if you opt for the available 8-speed automatic, the time drops to 4.9 seconds.
The brand with the star responded to BMW‘s challenge with the A45 AMG, a five door hatch only that comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharge four producing 355HP (360PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). It can only be had with a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission and all-wheel drive with Mercedes quoting a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of just 4.6 seconds.
