While there are many questions surrounding the teaser photo of a new Rapid model that was released by Skoda earlier today, there’s nothing of the sort with these spy shots, even though the Czechs and their German counterparts at the VW Group did try to fool us much in the same way they’ve done in the past with other vehicles
Allow us to explain. Despite the “Fabia” moniker at the back, and the fake light, bumper and grille stickers, all of which would make you believe it’s the Fabia Combi, this prototype is in fact the upcoming estate version of the Rapid, likely to be branded as the SpaceBack.
From these pictures at least, the new compact Skoda model looks like it’s trying to slot between station wagon and five-door hatchback models (think of it as a poor man’s Audi A3 Sportback), with a relatively small rear overhang (the part of the car behind the rear axle) and a slopped rear tailgate assembly.
Since it’s based on the Rapid liftback, the engine and transmission range will be carried over as is, including a selection of three- and four-cylinder petrols and four-cylinder diesels.
A Frankfurt Motor Show debut this September is very likely.
