Just after receiving its official pricing information for the UK market, the seventh-gen VW Golf estate (to be sold as the new Jetta SportWagen in North America) has also gained its first short test, in the typical fashion of local reviewer Honest John.
As you’d expect for a VW Golf review, there’s really nothing bad to say about the car, and if you’ve watched previous videos done for the hatch, it is advisable to re-watch them before having a go at this this, just so you have a clear picture about what Wolfsburg’s breadwinner is all about.
The test is quite short, and only covers the estatey bits, like how the rear seats fold, or how big the load bay and volume are, not necessarily concentrating on what it feels like to drive.
In the same category there’s also the cheaper and more fun to drive Ford Focus, as well as an upcoming attempt by Honda, which only comes to compliment a market sector which is really packed with tempting options.
I for one would not buy the standard Golf estate, and would rather pay the extra premium the group wants for a Skoda Octavia RS, in load lugger trim – like the ones spotted in this parking lot, simply because the price difference isn’t that great, as you are getting the same car, with more room and power, while not parting with that much more cash, thanks to the less desirable badge.
