Just last week, we showed you the production patents for the first electric car to go on regular sale from the BMW Group, the new i3, and today, the Germans announced that it will be officially revealed on July 29.

The announcement was accompanied by a video teaser showing people of all colors, a shady image of the production i3 and the tagline “It’s time to learn a new German word: Vorfreude“, which the KrautBlog saysdenotes a form of anticipation that imagines future pleasures ahead of time“.

BMW’s smallest model since the Isetta will measure around 3.9 meters (153 inches) long and it will feature two regular front doors, and a pair of two small rear doors that open in reverse to ease access to the rear seats.

There will be two versions of the i3, a battery-powered-only model with an electric motor producing around 170-horses that drives the rear wheels, and a range extender hybrid iteration that adds a small displacement two-cylinder motorbike engine, which works as a generator to increase the lightweight car’s driving range.
