After having seen our fair share of mediocre and bad car- and motorsports-related films, we were wondering whether the genre was getting a star any time soon. Then “Rush” came along, promising a well-documented dramatization of the 1976 Formula 1 championship, and more specifically, the personal battle between Niki Lauda and James Hunt, who raced for Ferrari and McLaren respectively.

However, the promise of a good picture extends beyond the choice of historic period, which is excellent, as “A Beautiful Mind” director Ron Howard seems genuinely passionate about doing the work done, and the movie out. Just check out this latest featurette, with the enthusiastic director, as well as the two leading actors, Daniel Brühl (Lauda) and Chris Hemsworth (Hunt), talking about their 1976 F1 experience.

There’s also some movie footage, showing Brühl both before and after entering the makeup booth to get realistic fake burns onto his head and face, mimicking those suffered by Lauda in his fiery crash. It all adds up nicely, and if we were to criticize some aspects, it would really just be nitpicking.

Scroll down, and watch the featurette for yourself – it’s all we have until the announced September 20 release date.
