If you happen to travel to Germany and see a two-tone BMW X3 with bright blue lights approaching at speed, there’s a good possibility it’s one of the new ambulance vehicles for the Bavarian Red Cross – that or a crazy tune from the likes of Hamann or G-Power…

On Friday, the BMW Group handed over the keys of seven brand new diesel-powered, and all-wheel drive, X3 xDrive20d SUVs to the Provincial Director of the Bavarian Red Cross, Dieter Deinert for use as first response ambulance vehicles in the German state of Bavaria.

“We are pleased that in future, not only the municipal emergency physicians, but all Bavarian rescue teams will drive BMW X3s,” said Alexander Thorwirth, BMW Group head of sales for public authorities.

The German carmaker said that by 2016, some 200 X3 SUVs will be used by members of the Bavarian Red Cross, the Fire Department of the City of Munich and all other emergency service organizations in the state of Bavaria.
