VW Group-owned Seat will present the Leon Cup Racer at the 2013 Wörthersee Tour, a racing car upon which the next Seat WTCC racer will be based.
Fitted with a 330PS (326hp) engine, the five-door hatch has the looks to match its performance. The 400mm (15.7 in) wider tracks than that of the series-production model, the 18-inch racing wheels and metallic matte grey paint with orange accents contribute to the Leon Cup Racer’s aggressive stance.
The bodykit is said to have been sculpted by aerodynamics and functional efficiency, with the engine and braking system receiving maximum airflow. Seat says the heavily flared sills, together with the front spoiler, rear diffuser, two-phase roof spoiler and the smooth under body help the Leon Cup Racer achieve maximum downforce for high-speed cornering.
The only elements carried over from the Leon production car are the full-LED headlamps with DRLs, LED rear lights and the roofline contour. The interior is obviously completely different, with the roll cage and bucket seat with HANS head-protection system being the most important safety features. The multi-function steering wheel and TFT display behind it complete the spartan interior.
Performance-wise, the front-wheel drive Leon Cup Racer is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine developing 330 PS (326 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The unit is linked to a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles and an electronically controlled differential lock. There’s also the option of a sequential racing transmission and mechanical differential lock for an endurance racing version.
The Seat Leon Cup Racer has a preliminary price of €70,000 ($91,800), with the endurance version starting from €95,000 ($124,600). Both prices exclude VAT. The car is eligible for competitions ranging from the ETCC to VLN Endurance Cup on the Nürburgring. A future WTCC version with 1.6-liter engine will also be based on the Leon Cup Racer.
Along with the Leon Cup Racer, Seat’s Wörthersee booth will also display the Ibiza SC Trophy, a race car that can compete in single-brand cups in Spain and Italy. Powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with 200 PS (197 hp) mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, the Ibiza SC Trophy has a mechanical differential lock for improved traction. Prices start from €31,500 ($41,300), excluding VAT.
Seat will also bring to Austria two Ibiza models for the road – the Ibiza SC Cupra with 180 PS and a DSG transmission painted in Nevada White with high-gloss black 17-inch wheels and the Ibiza SC FR painted in Emocion red and featuring an “FR 10-Year” anniversary package.
