We were weary when we first saw the teaser photos for the Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe concept, which showed an exaggerated version of a vehicle that promised to be very good-looking. However, we didn’t know just how much the actual car would be toned down. Well, we need wonder no more, because photos of the prototype leaked online, ahead of the its official debut at the 2013 Shanghai motor show.

I’m not a fan of the way VW cars are designed, but if this is a sign of things to come, please do keep them coming! Still, this being VW, the concept looks no more radical than a normal production version of, let’s say, a Range Rover Evoque, so it will probably be watered down even more if it reaches the production line.

In this case, the general shape should be retained, and it will only get detail changes to make it look a little more conventional, as is customary (BMW X4 and 4-Series concepts follow the same idea). It also gets a very nice steering wheel.

But before we jump into any more conclusions, we’ll put a stop here and wait for VW to release some official data, which should happen in the next 24 hours.
