GM has announced pricing and fuel economy figures for its new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra pickup trucks that share the same platform and hardware.

When equipped with GM’s 5.3-liter V8, they both average an EPA estimated 23 mpg on the highway (10.2 liters/100 km) for 2WD models and 22 mpg (10.7 l/100 km) for 4×4 models, while prices start from $24,585 (including a $995 destination freight charge) for the 2014 Silverado regular cab and $25,085 for the GMC Sierra regular cab.

According to a GM statement, “In addition to highway estimates that are 2 mpg higher than a comparable 2013 Ford V8 pickup and 3 mpg higher than a Ram V8, Sierra’s new V-8 fuel economy estimates also measure higher than those of the 2013 Ford F-150 EcoBoost V6.
The Silverado has the same base price as the outgoing model, but standard equipment will include a series of improvements, such as, a more powerful and efficient EcoTec3 V8 engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, an all-new interior, four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife rotors and a new bed with standard box rail protectors and CornerStep bumper.

The 2014 Silverado launches later this spring with crew cab models equipped with the all-new 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 that is an $895 option and which Chevrolet expects to power three out of four Silverado 1500s. The base starting prices for the Silverado crew cab, the first model to launch later this spring, and for the new double cab Silverado, which replaces the extended cab, will also be the same as for the corresponding 2013 models.

GM’s 5.3-liter V8 has 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque, with more than 300 lb-ft (407 Nm) of torque available from 2,000 to 5,600 rpm. Both models will have towing ratings of up to 11,500 pounds (5,216 kg), more than any light duty pickup available on the market.

Later this year, both pickups will be available with a standard 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 engine and an all-new top-of-the-range 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8.

2014 Silverado base MSRP:

  • Regular cab: $24,585
  • Double cab: $28,610
  • Crew cab: $32,710

2014 Sierra base MSRP:

  • Regular cab: $25,085
  • Double cab: $29,110
  • Crew cab: $33,210
