All state and local law enforcement officers are sworn to “protect and serve” the public with the highest standard of conduct and professionalism, but unfortunately, that’s not always the case.
For instance, take this Onslow County Sheriff’s Deputy in car No. 145 that was marked as a K-9 unit. South Carolina resident Chad Walton was filming the deputy driving in front of him on the left side of the road going the same speed as a Volvo XC90 in the middle lane.
According to Walton, the officer was holding up traffic by going 50 mph (80km/h) in the fast line, when the speed limit was 60mph (97km/h). To move ahead of the deputy’s car, Walton went around the Swedish SUV and re-entered the fast lane.
That’s something that didn’t sit well with the deputy who suddenly remembered that his Ford patrol car can go faster and passed Walton from the right and then cut back in front of him, slamming on the brakes!
Walton told ABC’s WWAY that the deputy’s move caused him to rear-end the police cruiser (lightly, from what we see, or rather, hear in the video). The deputy then accelerated and left the scene.
“That video doesn’t lie,” Walton told WWAY’s reporters. “You can see how it happened. You can see the speedometer in the video, where you can see I was going 60 miles an hour.”
The South Carolina driver said that he called 911 and reported the incident, adding that the North Charleston Police replied and cited the deputy for being at fault. The news station said it tried to talk to both the Onslow County Sheriff and the North Charleston Police, but neither has responded to their calls.
