Have you ever heard of cars wrapped in coins? Neither did we, but in the oil-rich Middle East, this is one of the most peculiar customizing techniques for auto enthusiasts. Forget wrapping your car in gold foil, everybody can do that. This coin-wrapping stuff is much rarer and harder to do.

The Range Rover in the video below uploaded by YouTube user Patrick3331 has no less than 57,412 coins attached to its bodywork!

A short research reveals that the company doing this type of customizing has worked on other cars as well, like the G55 AMG pictured below. Both cars look like anniversary models, with the Mercedes-Benz celebrating 40 years of the United Arab Emirates, while the Range Rover is adorned with flags of the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia and pictures of the respective countries’ leaders.

To avoid unwanted attention from thieves, Dubai-based Coins Car company uses old Dirham coins that have been withdrawn from circulation. They say cars wrapped in coins reflect the light just like diamonds, for a fraction of the price. That still doesn’t answer our question: why would anybody want to do that to his or her car?
