Whoever said being a reporter on television isn’t exciting or…painful, needs to think twice. Investigative reporter Jeff Chirico for local CBS station WGCL in Atlanta has the scars to prove it after he tried to interview the father of a convicted auto dealer who opened a new shop in Gainesville, even though he doesn’t have a license.

The story begins in September when Richard Wilder, 43, owner of the now-defunct Braselton Used Auto Sales, was charged with seven counts of theft by deception and one count of racketeering for purportedly depositing customers’ tax refund checks into his own account.

In addition, CBS Atlanta said that Wilder had been previously indicted for odometer fraud, forgery, computer theft and other charges in 2009 and 2010, while also pleading to two felony charges in 2011.

Following the September incident, the Georgia secretary of state issued a cease and desist order against Wilder for operating a used auto dealership without a license. However, far from being discouraged, Wilder and his family simply moved their shady business to Gainesville!

Chirico discovered the Wilder family’s new shop named “EZ Auto Sales” at 1608 Atlanta Rd. in Gainesville, and tried to interview the 43-year old after learning that he is not licensed to sell used cars in Georgia.

The man would not respond the reporter’s questions. Then his father came into the picture and with the camera rolling he grabbed Chirico from the coat and told him, “It only costs 35 bucks to punch this man in the mouth”.

Wilder’s father then opened the shop’s door and turned to the reporter who was following from behind and punched him right in the face knocking him down!
