The all-new Maserati Quattroporte will make its world debut on the upcoming Detroit Motor Show but the Italian company has already let the motoring press get their hands on its flagship luxury saloon.
How well the car is received, both by journalists and customers, will play an important role in the automaker’s ambitious plan to increase its global annual sales nearly ten-fold over the next few years to around 50,000 units.
The latest review comes from Autocar editor Steven Sutcliffe who drove the top-of-the-line Quattroporte with the 523HP twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8.
You might think that another journalist testing the new Maserati isn’t really big news. When he brings in a rival to see how the two compare, though, things start to get interesting.
The car Sutcliffe compares the Quattroporte to is the Jaguar XJ, which the British magazine ranks as best in class and in 503HP V8 guise is a direct competitor to the Maserati.
Does the newcomer dethrone the reigning champion? You can find the answer in the video that follows the break – and you’re certainly welcome to comment on the verdict…
