With all the incidents filmed on Russian roads, (you can head over to Jalopnik for some of the best dashcam clips of 2012 – we’re preparing our own list, too), we rarely say this about a road rage incident, but WOW.

There’s road rage, there’s psychotic and then there’s “this windshield ain’t going to stop me punching your face” kind of rage, which makes Mad Max and Toecutter look like Care Bears…

We only get to hear and watch one side of the story in this incident as the perpetrator has yet to be interviewed, or captured by the police, for that matter, but here’s what went on.

This past Sunday, Ken Olsen, a former police officer, was driving his camera-equipped pickup truck south of Brisbane, Australia, when all of a sudden, a black ute rear-ended him. Olsen looked back and saw the driver gesturing towards his direction before he tried to pull up next to his vehicle.

“At that stage he just appeared to be coming up beside me so he could scream through the open passenger window,” Olsen told Today-Tonight, an Australian current affairs programme on Seven Network.

“He was going berserk at me again, so I thought ‘I’m not going to pull over for this bloke because he seems a little bit unbalanced,” Olsen added.

From there on, the situation got out of hand with the unidentified driver of the black ute smashing into Olsen’s truck and trying to push him off the road.

And then it got worse. “He’s gone onto grass verge, pulled over straight in front of me, and then immediately applied his brakes. I had nowhere to go and went straight into the back of him,” said Olsen.

“He then jumped out of passenger door, came right up to vehicle, and I thought ‘he’s not coming to talk, he means business’.”

And business he meant as the enraged driver smashed the windshield with his bare hands before Olsen was able to pull away, knocking him down with his mirror in the process.

Olsen was eventually able to make it out alive and unscathed to a police station. Even though as a former police officer he has dealt with road rage incident in the past, Olsen says he has never seen anything like this before.

“This has shaken me,” he told Today-Tonight. “It’s something that you don’t expect and it’s something that’s very difficult to deal with. How do you deal with somebody trying to, what I think, trying to kill you on the road? I’m struggling.”

According to the news report, the perpetrator has already contacted the police and is planning to hand himself in on Wednesday morning (Dec. 19).
