With consumers flocking to crossovers and SUVs, the market for high-riding vehicles has reached new heights, and has even contributed to the constant expanding of pickup trucks.
Renault has the Alaskan, Mercedes-Benz dominates the high-end of the segment with the X-Class, and even Fiat has one: the Fullback.
However, it’s not a Fiat product per se, but a re-badged version of the Mitsubishi L200 born at a time that the Japanese brand wasn’t yet owned by Nissan. The pickup truck was recently subjected to an on-road test by CarBuyer.
The reviewer talks about the positives and negatives of having an open bed, and found what pretty much everyone who has ever driven such a vehicle already knows: a very uncomfortable rear seat, not enough storage spaces inside, and cheap plastics used throughout.

Also, as expected, the Fiat Fullback isn’t that good to drive on a daily basis either, due to its hard suspension. But the steering was found to be sharp (for a truck, that is), and cornering isn’t as wobbly as you’d think.
The Fiat Fullback is “respectably quite” on the go, despite being powered by a diesel engine that offered in two outputs: 150PS (148hp / 110kW) and 180PS (177hp / 132kW). It’s worth noting that the manual gearbox was described as being smooth, whereas the five-speed auto feels “old fashioned and sluggish”.
