Porsche Cars North America informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is recalling certain 2010 MY 911 GT3 cars over an issue with their rear wheel hubs.
The GT3s that are recalled were manufactured between May 15, 2009 and February 11, 2010 and the potential number of affected vehicles is 455 units.
The problem with these cars is that the rear wheel hubs may be prone to failure “under certain driving conditions” and the suggested maintenance intervals may be enough to prevent this from happening.
It goes without saying that if a rear wheel hub fails when the car is in motion, there’s a risk of losing control and a possible accident – but the NHTSA, which does not clarify the “certain driving conditions” part says it anyway…
Owners of the affected models will be notified by Porsche to have the rear wheel hubs of their GT3s replaced by dealers free of charge and be provided with the revised service intervals schedule.
