Renault applies the RS treatment to its hatchbacks to brilliant effect, producing some of the hottest ones in the business. It’s also been known to gussy-up some of its commercial vehicles in the spirit of Renault Sport, but this here is something else entirely.
It’s called the T High Renault Sport Racing edition, and it’s not even made by Renault. At least, not by the carmaker: Renault Trucks has been part of the Volvo Group (also separate from its namesake automaker) since 2001.
Yet it shares its name with the passenger-car manufacturer, and furnishes its big-rigs to the F1 team. Now, it’s even come out with a special edition semi.
It’s based on the T series heavy-duty tractor, but as you can tell, it’s done up inside and out in the racing team’s color scheme of yellow and black. Against the yellow paint of the principal bodywork, the special truck features gloss-black side mirrors, grille and badges. Meanwhile, the wheels are yellow to match the body and the interior features Recaro seats and steering wheel, both covered in black leather with yellow stitching. The dashboard wears a carbon finish, and the air vents and seat belts are framed in yellow, too.
Mechanically it’s unchanged, but then the 13-liter six-cylinder diesel already packs 520 metric horsepower (382 kW) – which is about twice the output of the top Megane RS, from six and a half times the displacement. Don’t even get us started on the torque, which comes out to 1,881 lb-ft (or 2,550 Nm).
Renault Trucks will only make 99 individually numbered examples of the T High Renault Sport Racing edition. And before you ask, no, we’re afraid the truck manufacturer doesn’t participate in the US market any more than its passenger-car counterpart.
