The original 1966 Batmobile, built on the 1955 Lincoln Futura Concept by George Barris for the campy television series from the same decade, will go on sale next January at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, but we all know that unless you’re a 1 percenter, you probably can’t afford it.
Of course, there are plenty of alternatives in the form of accurate replicas like this one from Fiberglass Freaks that we had the opportunity to ride back in 2010, but it will still cost you somewhere around $150,000.
So, are there any cheaper solutions? Well, you could go for this “tribute” to the 1966 Batmobile we found on eBay, just as long as you can live with the overly campy thought that’s it’s a chopped 1988 Ford Escort GT with a “1.9-liter turbo engine”.
Last time we checked, the highest bid on eBay was $3,333. If you scroll down, you’ll find a rather amusing description of the car from the seller along with a set of photos.

This crowd drawing , eye-catcher was originally a garden variety 3 door hatchback before clever structural modification by creator Paul F. of Minnesota : box tubing welded to frame- roll bars of race car roll bar stock- wings are tubed frames with sheet aluminum skin – Only fiberglass in 3 small areas- nostril cowl; across top of windshield frame and insert of triangulated trunk lid (modified from original hatchback).
Signature chrome/red Batmobile 3 pipe tree is live exhaust as well as the double wall turbo blaster( between tail lites) with switched red LED insert. Nostril cowl and below front bumper is set of legit emergency red strobes. Engine tranny, suspension, drive train, are all stock . Interior Bat gadgets as shown.
