The Sunset Yellow option offered on the Kia Stinger may look nice but the South Korean automaker has announced a stop-sale on all examples painted this color.
Speaking to Car Advice, Kia Australia chief operation officer Damien Meredith confirmed that the Sunset Yellow paint features an oil that causes long-term durability problems, making the paint prone to chips and cracks. The issue reportedly impacts how well the paint adheres to the primer.
According to Meredith, the 50 plus owners of Sunset Yellow Kia Stingers in Australia will be offered total resprays.

“We’ve contacted all of the owners. There was an issue in regards to an oil residue in the yellow which could possibly crack more when hit by a stone chip, et cetera, et cetera, so we’ve moved very, very quickly.
“As of today, we’ve contacted all of the customers apart from 15 I believe that we haven’t been able to get a hold of at this point in time, and we’ve offered them to respray the car and give that paint a lifetime guarantee,” Meredith said.
Responding to further questions, Meredith confirmed that the issue is affecting Stingers around the world, saying that complete vehicle resprays will be covered under the sports sedan’s global warranty.
While it’s unlikely all owners of Sunset Yellow Kia Stingers will go ahead with the respray, the fix will inevitably cost the company millions of dollars. In fact, a full respray with a lifetime guarantee can easily cost more than $10,000.
