With the European market in turmoil, Peugeot has every reason to pay more attention to the models it builds and sells in overseas markets like the 408 Sedan, which is an extended-wheelbase, notchback version of the 308 hatch that is offered in China, South America and more recently, in Russia as well.

The spies over at China’s Sohu captured some pictures of an undisguised prototype of the facelifted 408 Sedan.

The exterior of the 4.68 meters (184.3 inches) long and 1.81 meters (71.3 inches) wide compact saloon receives some minor cosmetic tweaks including the re-styled chrome bars on the lower front grille, the adoption of Peugeot’s new frameless lion logo on the hood (as seen on the new 301) and new graphics for the tail lamps.

Inside, Peugeot’s designers have given the 408’s cabin a slightly more premium feel by adding new chrome and aluminum-like trims on the dashboard, upper and lower center consoles and the doors, while there’s also a newly styled automatic gearbox lever.

Sohu reports that Peugeot is likely to improve the output and fuel economy of the 408’s 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines.
