The Lexus RC F is stuck playing second fiddle to the Toyota Supra, so one RC F GT3 decided to protest this injustice by spontaneously bursting into flames.

The incident occurred at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Friday after five-time Daytona 500 winner Scott Pruett returned to the paddock.

As you can see in the videos, the RC F GT3 appeared to be in perfect condition as Pruett exited the car without any sign of trouble.

As Pruett reaches back into the cabin, flames erupt from underneath the car. He quickly runs away as the fire begins to spread.

A handful of people arrive to combat the blaze with fire extinguishers and it seems to work – for a while. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain as the fire completely engulfs the car and leaves it a burned out hunk of metal.

The cause of the fire remains unclear, but Lexus told Jalopnik the model was a show car that can be used for racing but isn’t fielded in IMSA competition.  That’s a bit of good news on an otherwise bad day for the company.

The RC F GT3 was one of a handful of vehicles Lexus brought to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, as the company is using the event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its F performance brand. Among the other models at Goodwood are the IS F, GS F, LFA and RC F Cup.
