The Volkswagen Group’s Spanish Seat brand has turned over dozens of fresh photos and new videos of its 2013 Toledo compact saloon, which was first revealed online this past June.
The reincarnated, fourth generation Toledo will received its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show before going on sale first in Spain and Portugal in mid-November, and then in the rest of Europe early next year.
The Toledo is a sister model to the also new Skoda Rapid with the two cars sharing their body, interior and mechanical hardware. The differences mainly concern the styling with each model getting unique front and rear ends, as well as bespoke interior trim, steering wheels and instrument panels.
Like the Rapid, the Toledo sports a handy hatchback tailgate that opens together with the rear window to reveal a capacious luggage compartment with 550 litres of space that can be expanded to 1,490 litres with the optional folding rear seats.
“The new Toledo proves that a five-door, compact notchback saloon can be emotional and dynamic,” says Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, Head of SEAT Design. “The new Toledo combines an elegant shape interpreted in a modern way, with a high level of everyday utility. It is the SEAT among the saloon cars, with high-quality design in every detail.”
According to the automaker, the compact Seat has a length of 4,480mm and rides on a 2,602mm wheelbase, which is 80mm longer than that of the Toledo II (evidently, Seat wants to forget that the odd-looking Toledo Mk3 ever existed…).
Engine and transmission choices are what you would expect from a Volkswagen Group vehicle of this size and price category.
The petrol range includes 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter TSI turbocharged units generating between 74hp (75PS) and 121hp (122PS), the most powerful versions of which will be offered with an optional 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission in addition to the standard manual gearbox.
On the diesel front, initial options will include a 1.6-liter TDI with 103hp (105PS) and from 2013, with 89hp (90PS).
