Mass production of Kia’s all-new Cee’d Sportswagon has begun at the company’s manufacturing plant in Zilina, Slovakia, with first deliveries in Europe scheduled for late September.
The new generation of the Cee’d Sportswagon was introduced alongside the five-door hatchback model that has already gone on sale, at the Geneva Motor Show this past March.
The Korean automaker anticipates that demand for the station wagon model will boost production at Zilina to 285,000 vehicles in 2012. The previous iteration of the model, known as the Cee’d SW, represented more than a fifth of the site’s overall production.
“The cee’d Sportswagon is an important addition to the Kia range in Europe and we have been preparing for its production throughout 2012,” commented Eek-Hee Lee, President and CEO of Kia Motors Slovakia. “We are confident that the Sportswagon will prove very popular with European customers and help the Zilina plant in meeting its production target.”
Details on pricing and equipment specifications for the European Cee’d Sportwagon are to be released within the next few weeks.
Kia also announced today that its Zilina facility is preparing for the launch of the yet-to-be revealed three-door Pro_Cee’d that will begin production in early 2013. This means that there’s a strong possibility Kia will debut the Pro_Cee’d at next month’s Paris Motor Show.
