The first series production version of the all-important and all-new 2013 Accord rolled off the assembly line at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant in the state of Ohio on Monday, August 20.

The Accord has been in continuous production at the Marysville Auto Plant since it began operations as the first Japanese automaker in the U.S. on November 1, 1982, with the assembly of the second generation of the Accord sedan.

Over the past three decades, the Ohio plant has produced over 9 million examples of the Accord.

“The styling is outstanding, the features are impressive and the technology is unlike any other vehicle in this segment,” said Jeff Tomko, plant manager of the Marysville Auto Plant. “But what really makes this vehicle great is the hands-on craftsmanship that each of our associates have put into building this new Accord.”

The 2013 model year version of Honda’s mid-size car is the ninth generation of the series and was introduced online in both four-door sedan and two-door coupe body styles earlier this month.

Aside from the fresh styling and an array of standard and optional features that include the LaneWatch blind-spot display, Forward Collision Warning, and Expanded View Driver’s Mirror, the new Accord also gets Honda’s new “Earth Dreams” powertrain series, which is a 181hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to a new CVT or a 6sp manual.

The engine range will also include a re-engineered and more powerful version of Honda’s 3.5-liter V6 i-VTEC and a plug-in hybrid powertrain linking a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder, Atkinson cycle engine, to an electric Continuously Variable Transmission (E-CVT) and a 120kW (161HP) electric motor fed by a 6 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery.

“This new Accord will be very fun to drive, will offer great fuel economy, and will feature a comfortable cabin with a very quiet ride,” said Tomko.

The new 2013 Accord Sedan and Coupe models will go on sale in the States later this year with pricing to be announced.
