The mystery behind the teaser pictures and videos of the Audi Sport-themed RS5 Coupe and Ducati Multistrada 1200S was solved today with an official announcement from the two brands.

As it turns out, it was all done to celebrate the acquisition of the Ducati brand from Audi earlier this year as well as to promote their participation at this weekend’s 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado and to announce a new competition.

To participate in the contest, which is open only to U.S. residents who are at least 25 years old and hold both a driver’s and a motorcycle rider’s license, you have to tell the German automaker why you would like to come together with Audi and Ducati to experience both brands with a message on Twitter.

The winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two to Sonoma, California, to attend the Audi Sportscar Experience One-Day Program at Infineon Raceway and the Ducati Riding Experience Program.

To promote the contest, the two companies filmed a video with the Audi RS5 and the Ducati Multistrada 1200S driving up the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. You can watch the clip right past the jump.
