More than three months after a Canadian motorcyclist posted a video of himself riding his bike on a public highway at speeds of up to 186mph or 300km/h and several weeks after local police identified and issued a warrant against him, Randy George Scott decided to surrender and face the consequences of his actions.
On Tuesday evening, the 25-year old motorcyclist turned himself in at the Kelowna, British Columbia, police department, which is located about six hours from Saanich, the town where the incident took place, CNN reported.
Police had filed charges against Scott on July 10.
“The man allegedly responsible for the infamous YouTube video ‘Victoria Highway Run 299km’ is in custody,” Kelowna police said in a statement.
Canadian authorities believe that Scott may have reached speeds higher than 186mph or 300km/h. The speed limit on the highway Scott was allegedly driving is 80km/h (50mph).
“You can hear him accelerating even when it says 299 kph,” Saanich Police Sgt. Dean Jantzen told the news station.
The young man appeared in court on Wednesday and was released on bail with conditions, which as you may have already guessed, include not driving any kind of vehicle or motorcycle, according to the Times Colonist. He is scheduled to appear in Victoria provincial court on August 16.
If convicted, Scott could be sentenced up to five years in jail.
The video of the wild run on the Canadian highway is still up on YouTube having garnered close to 1.2 million views since April 8.
