Proving that the MX-5 Yusho, which we first laid eyes on at the Auto Mobil International Show (AMI) in June, is much more than a static concept, Mazda presented the supercharged model at the ‘Zoom-Zoom Xperience’ test-drive event at the Hockenheim-Ring earlier this month.

A professional driver for the Japanese brand took participants for a spin in the MX-5 Yusho, which is named after the Japanese word for “Victory”.

The hardcore MX-5 boosts the power of the standard model’s 2.0-litre gasoline unit from 158hp (160PS) at 6,700rpm and 188Nm (138 lb-ft) at 5,000rpm to 237hp (241PS) at 6,800 rpm and peak torque from to 274Nm (202 lb-ft) 5,400rpm, largely thanks to a supercharger system, a new ECU and a custom exhaust.

Mazda also uprated the suspension and the six-speed manual gearbox’s clutch, while the concept rides on semi-slick Toyo Proxes R888 tires size 215/45 R17 and features a discreet aero package.
