Understandably, with only two years under its belt, it’s too early for Aston Martin to be working on a mid-life facelift for its Rapide sports saloon. So, what is the British brand doing with this partially camouflaged prototype of the Rapide?

Our spies believe that the car you see in these photos is a more powerful and sportier version of luxury sedan named the Rapide S.

The masking suggests that there are some changes made to the design of the front bumper and grille, which seems to have grown in width, as well as the tail lamp graphics and bumper at the rear end.

In its current base trim, the Rapide gets Aston Martin’s 5.9-liter V12 engine producing 470hp (477Nm) at 6,000 rpm and 600Nm (443 lb-ft) of peak torque at 5,000 rpm with a rear mid-mounted, ‘Touchtronic 2’ six-speed automatic driving the rear wheels for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.2 seconds (0-60mph in 5.0 seconds).

If this is indeed the Rapide S, then we will likely see the V12 engine tweaked to deliver anywhere from 500 to 550 horses, plus modifications to the transmission for faster gear changes and the chassis including the suspension, steering and brake systems for improved handling.
