With a production output of 3.64 million vehicles last year, SAIC Motor Corporation Limited is China’s largest domestic automobile maker and a name that you will hear a lot more about in the years to come.
SAIC is now trying to strengthen its U.S. presence with the establishment of its new North American Operations Center in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham in Michigan.
The company completely refurbished a 30,000 square foot three story building that will eventually house nearly 100 employees who will focus on three main areas of SAIC USA’s automotive business including, Sourcing and Purchasing of automotive parts, materials and components, Logistics and Technology and Engineering.
The Chinese carmaker says that its decision to expand its Operation Center in Michigan was based on a number of factors, including access to a highly trained work force, proximity to key global automotive partners (especially with its China partner General Motors), proximity to global automotive parts suppliers and the favorable business environment in Michigan.
SAIC Motor’s Chairman, Mr. Maoyuan Hu commented: “It is clear to see SAIC’s determination to deeply cooperate with US businesses and SAIC will continue to promote the development of exchanges with partners in the US.”
He continued: “I believe SAIC USA will continue to work as a bridge and link between SAIC Motor and the US auto industry. Further, we expect SAIC USA will continue healthy growth in this market and this will be a new chapter of mutually beneficial cooperation for China and the US, with the support of both countries.”
