So far, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon hasn’t exactly impressed on the drag strip, despite its massive output.
That’s mostly because laying down the entire 840 horses produced by the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 is quite tricky, drag radials or not.
And since the Demon is basically an evolution of the Challenger SRT Hellcat tuned for the drag strip, then one would assume that it could eat it for breakfast. However, in the real world, the outcome is very unpredictable, as proved by the following video.

Normally, we would keep the result a surprise, but it’s not often that we come across a superior machine beaten into submission by a detuned derivative. Of course, the driver factor needs to be considered, too, as the person behind the wheel of the Hellcat likely had more experience in quarter-mile runs than the person sitting in the Demon.
It wasn’t a lucky strike, either, as the latter was actually beaten not by one, but by two Hellcats, even with the tires close to the optimal temperature. Talk about a bad day at the strip.
Before inviting you to scroll down and hit the play button, we’ll remind you that the Demon is no longer in production, but the Hellcat is. Dodge is asking at least $58,650 for the muscle car and its 717hp. At the same time, there’s also a Hellcat Redeye out, offered from $69,650, whose 6.2-liter V8 delivers a whopping 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet (957 Nm) of torque.
