Mahindra Unveils New Pininfarina-Designed Furio Trucks

Mahindra’s Truck and Bus division (MTBD) has unveiled a brand new commercial vehicle dubbed Furio, designed and engineered in Italy by Pininfarina.

Furio marks Mahindra’s entry into the ICV segment, where it will showcase its efficient, light weight MDI Tech engine with FuelSmart technology. Its production will take place at a world class manufacturing facility in Chakan, near Pune, India.

“Mahindra Furio is the latest addition to our achievements in the transportation sector, after having brought to life for more than 8 decades legendary cars but also high-speed trains, trucks, busses, yachts, airplanes and even private jets,” stated Pininfarina CEO Silvio Pietro Angori. “Together with Mahindra Truck we have created a ground-braking innovation in the ICV category. The result is a vehicle that integrates style, function and innovation; the fundamentals of Pininfarina.”

The most innovative thing when it comes to the Furio is the previously-mentioned MDI Tech engine, where its FuelSmart technology boasts multi-mode switches that optimize consumption while taking into account load and road conditions. The power unit is also said to offer high torque at low RPMs.

“The unveiling of the new Furio range of ICV trucks is a defining moment for our Truck and Bus business as we are set to enter a new orbit and become a full range commercial vehicle player. With Pininfarina inspired design, the Furio is set to be a game changer for us and perhaps for the industry, giving the new truck one of the safest, most ergonomic and comfortable cabins that will set new standards. I am confident that just like that Blazo HCV series, the Furio range of ICVs will also set new benchmarks for performance, earnings and deliver better value to customers,” added Mahindra & Mahindra exec, Dr Pawan Goenka.

Development on the Furio began back in 2014 and it involved more than 500 Mahindra employees, about 180 suppliers and over 1,000 performance tests.
