The 2019 Ford Ranger won’t go on sale in the United States until early next year, but the company has been caught testing a configurator for the upcoming pickup.
First noted by Off-Road.com, the configurator reveals an assortment of new details about the truck and suggests the SuperCab variant will start at $24,300. Shortly after the story went live, Ford told the publication there won’t be a regular cab version of the truck and the configurator may contain some incorrect information.
The workaround to get to the configurator no longer seems to be working, but it still provides us with some clues about the upcoming model even though things may change by the time it is officially launched next week. With that caveat in mind, here’s a brief overview of what the Ranger trim levels could look like.
Since Ford confirmed there won’t be a regular cab variant, the base model will likely be the Ranger XL SuperCab which the configurator showed as having a base price of $24,300. That price could change but, if it is correct, the Ranger would be significantly more expensive than the Chevrolet Colorado which starts at $21,195.
Despite the possibility of having a higher price tag, the Ranger XL appears as basic as can be. The configurator suggests the truck will have steel wheels, a black plastic front bumper and a basic black grille. Interior appointments also appear meager as the only niceties listed include cloth seats and an AM/FM stereo system with four speakers.
The Ranger XLT SuperCab showed a starting price of $27,940 and it appears to be a big improvement over the XL variant. On the outside, the model has a body-color front bumper, a chrome grille surround and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The listing also showed the truck has fog lights, a SYNC infotainment system and the Co-Pilot 360 suite of driver assistance systems.
The Ranger Lariat goes a step further as the model has LED-infused headlights, body-color mirrors with integrated turn signals and a unique grille with additional chrome trim. The configurator showed the truck would start at $32,210 and come equipped with leather seats as well as an intelligent access system with a push-button ignition.
Besides the SuperCab versions of the truck, the configurator showed a four-door SuperCrew model. It will be offered in three trim levels and pricing could start at $26,520.
The configurator also showed an assortment of options including Chrome and Sport Appearance packages as well as the previously announced FX4 Off-Road Package. The configurator went on to suggest there will be an optional Bang & Olufsen audio system on the Ranger Lariat as well as a Technology package that adds adaptive cruise control and GPS navigation.
Details could change by the time things go official, but we already know all US-spec Rangers will be powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that is connected to a ten-speed automatic transmission.
