Automobili Pininfarina has released new details about the PF0 ahead of its debut at Monterey Car Week.
Unfortunately for fans, the showings will be private and reserved for people who have shown “significant interest” in the car. That’s a bit disappointing, but the company has confirmed its guests will be shown a full-scale model that previews the PF0’s styling and technology.
Speaking of the design, the PF0 will draw inspiration from some of Pininfarina’s most iconic model. These include the 1947 Cisitalia 202, the 1970 512S Modulo and the 2008 Sintesi concept.
According to design director Luca Borgogno, “We are defining a car that is not overdesigned; we want something that is super clean and looks impossibly simple. Whenever you look back at classic Pininfarina cars, these qualities stand out.”
Besides unveiling the car’s exterior design, Pininfarina will provide additional information about the interior. The company recently released a handful of teaser images which showed the model will have a compact steering wheel and a small digital instrument cluster. Both will be flanked by digital displays which show everything from vehicle information to navigation data. Drivers will also find a head-up display which replaces a number of conventional dials.
While the final design remains a mystery, the car’s specifications are not. Pininfarina says the electric hypercar will have will accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than two seconds and be able to hit a top speed in excess of 186 mph (300 km/h). The PF0 will also use lightweight carbon fiber body panels which will help enable the model to have a range of up to 500 km (310 miles).
The PF0 will be hand-built in Italy and the first model is scheduled to be complete in 2020. The company eventually has plans to build a total of 150 units.
