Before we complain about how our computers are becoming saturated with the grotesquely large Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² as of late, let’s consider the fact that turning a regular G-Wagen into this overgrown toy for the road takes some serious work.
Compared to a regular G500, the 4×4² features heavy duty portal axles, dual strut springs and adjustable dampers. Its total ground clearance is an amazing 17.7 inches (450 mm), while the fording depth can be up to 39.4 inches (1 meter).
We could go on and on about how its front and rear tracks were also modified, or how its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine makes 416 HP (422 PS) and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque, but at this point, it’s mostly about the way it looks, especially with this Fab Design-tuned version.
The Swiss tuner added their own body kit, comprised of new front and rear bumpers, as well as those gigantic flared fenders, integrated side exhausts, a custom hood, side skirts and a set of slightly different roof-mounted daytime running lights.
It’s worth mentioning that the body kit can be had in either composite or carbon fiber materials and that you can get the tuner’s logo on the grille, as well as a customized interior (leather, Alcantara, carbon fiber etc).
Since the 4×4² already looks bonkers, these mods actually end up looking quite conservative. Although, if you look close, they’re pretty easy to spot and surprisingly unobtrusive – unlike the vehicle itself.
