Only a few months after reaching showrooms in the U.S., the 2013 Lexus GS sedan has suffered its first recall, or to be precise, a voluntary safety recall.

However, not all GS variants are affected as the recall concerns approximately 650 units of the 2013 GS 350 rear-wheel drive model with the F Sport package to update the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) electronic control unit (ECU) calibration.

Here’s how Lexus describes the problem it discovered on this model: “On certain early 2013 model year GS 350 F-Sport RWD vehicles, the ECU for the VGRS system could cause the steering wheel to become off-centered when restarting the vehicle immediately after the vehicle is parked with the steering wheel turned.”

To address this issue, Lexus will have its dealers perform a software update to the VGRS ECU calibration system.

Lexus said that the fix will take around 30 minutes, depending on the dealer’s schedule. Owners of the affected GS sedans will receive a safety recall notification by mail in early June 2012.
